Calculator for COVID-19 testing

Need a pre-departure COVID-19 Travel Test? The Sonic Travel Testing calculator will help you work out when to have your sample collected.

It is essential that you check with your airline or cruise line, or your transit and destination countries for the latest requirements for your pre-departure COVID-19 travel test. You will also find these guidelines from the embassies and consulates, and on smartraveller.gov.au.

Testing based on departure

Check when you are required to have your sample collected.

Our travel testing calculator creates an optimal timeline in which you are required to present for your COVID-19 PCR Test. Please check your travel guidelines for your destination prior to using the calculator below. Simply enter your departure date and time below and our travel testing calculator will show you when to have your sample collected.

In circumstances when there is an outbreak causing an increase in demand for testing, there may be a delay.

Please ensure you present for collection as early as possible within your testing window. Please have your sample collected within the time specified in the dark blue testing window, according to the guideline of your travel service or destination country. A negative test is usually required 48 OR 72 hours prior to departure. Ensure that you have confirmed the latest guidelines for your travel before ordering your test. If your sample is collected in the red window, we cannot guarantee that you will receive your report prior to departure.

We highly recommend printing multiple copies of your negative result as some airlines and destinations may require a printed copy of your report.

How to calculate 72 hours for testing based on arrival

Some countries require travellers to have a negative COVID-19 test based on their arrival, rather than departure.

Although you cannot use the Sonic Travel Testing pre-departure calculator, you can work out when to have your test collected by using a time zone converter. Our travel testing calculator creates an optimal timeline in which you are required to present for your COVID-19 PCR Test. Please check your travel guidelines for your destination prior to using the calculator above.

Enter the local arrival time at your destination and use the converter to give you the corresponding time at your departure city or location where you intend to have your COVID-19 test collected. Make sure that you use this time to work out when to have your sample collected and remember to leave at least 24 hours before your flight departs, so that we can test and report your result in time to check-in.
